Is there such a thing as a fountain of youth? If there is, don’t forget to give your girl the coordinates on where to find it and I’ll be there with my empty drum to store all that good stuff in!
While I do believe in aging gracefully, I personally think it wouldn’t hurt if I’d look like 30 in my 60s.
I know that aging is something that is unstoppable, whether we like it or not, we age every second and for some reason, some people age more quickly than the others due to certain factors (we’ll talk about that in a few).
I know a lot of you girls can relate, but have you tried checking your face out closely in the mirror and then panic as you zoom in to what seems like the first sign of aging: Frown lines!
Yep, those deep wrinkles in between your brows.
I’m sure you’re all wondering how that got in there (especially when you’re in your 20s!) and what’s the best treatment for deep frown lines that won’t require Botox or going under the knife.
Read on as I age-ucate (educate) you on how to fight against facial wrinkles.

What Causes Deep Wrinkles Such As Frown Lines?
The main culprit here is the decline in collagen. Collagen is produced by fibroblasts in our dermis (the second layer of our skin) and is responsible for giving our skin form and structure.
As babies, we had 100% collagen in our skin. That’s why babies have that soft, supple and poreless skin!
As we age though, the fibroblasts can get weaker and eventually die, producing less collagen than it used to, causing the collagen bundles to collapse which is what gives our skin that deep crease on the outside.
It is said that we get 20% less collagen in our 30s, 40% less in our 40s and 50% less in our 50s (*gasp* Such big numbers!).
While aging is natural (there’s no stopping gravity from pulling everything downwards), there are certain factors that can hasten it and cause what is known as premature aging.
Genetics
Our genes play a major role in our physical aspect. Yep, that includes how susceptible you are from getting frown lines or wrinkles in general.
Some genes are more prone to getting wrinkles while others seem to have found that lucky DNA strand and age slower (insert picture of the 50+ year-old Chinese woman who looks like a 20-year-old).
Sun Damage / Exposure to UV Rays
UV rays (either from prolonged exposure to the sun or using tanning beds frequently) can break down not only the collagen and elastin in your dermis but also cause irreversible damage to your fibroblasts.
Without these collagen factories, you’ll have lesser and weaker collagen bundles that may be prone to breaking and snapping off causing wrinkles.
I’d rather be as pale as Snow White than have more of these wrinkles!
Facial Reactions
Are you squinting a lot (probably due to sun exposure) or cringing a lot from your roommate’s corny jokes?
Repeated facial expressions can actually cause deep lines on your face.
Since each face is different, you may notice other people getting it on other areas of their face (laugh lines, crow’s feet, etc.).
This is one reason why Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) always keeps the so-called resting-bitch-face, and it’s actually working, in my opinion!
Environment and Lifestyle Choices
Smoking, drinking alcohol, doing drugs, being exposed to pollution, having poor eating habits can all wreak havoc on your skin.
These factors can damage both the collagen and your fibroblasts.
Try checking out the before and after pics of those who did drugs to see how this affects the skin.
Can Aging be Reversed?
I know y’all are here wanting to know how to get rid of frown lines between eyebrows or how to get rid of frown lines on the forehead or wherever.
Well…News flash: We can’t reverse aging. We have constantly lost that battle against time and gravity!
BUT! Do not be discouraged! While we can’t totally erase or get rid of those deep lines, we can still improve its appearance.
And I know, in this economy, not everyone has the money for Botox or those fancy facelifts, the next part of this article will actually talk about how to get rid of the number ‘11’ lines between your brows naturally.
Or shall I say how to improve the appearance of these lines naturally without having to cost an arm and a leg!
*drum roll* Introducing the best treatment for deep frown lines!
The Best Home Remedies For Deep Wrinkles Between Eyebrows
Load Up on H2O
We all know the benefits of drinking 8 glasses of water a day. It’s all about keeping our cells hydrated to support their peak performance.
Wrinkles won’t stand a chance if you’re consistently well hydrated.
If you need to be reminded to drink water, because (duh!) we’re all busy individuals, you can download the Plant Nanny app for free (available on Google Play and Apple Store).
This app turns you into a virtual plant that you need to water or else it’ll die plus, it sends you a notification whenever you need to drink water.
It takes water intake tracking to a whole new level of fun!
Watch Your Diet
Overeating, especially the bad stuff (fast food, junk food, etc.) can have a bad effect on our skin causing not just breakouts but also wrinkles.
Eat a well-balanced meal and remember to eat for your body and not your mind or emotions. Our mind can easily trick us into thinking that we need more food.
Just listen to your whole body and how it feels as a guide.
Wear Sunscreen
Doesn’t matter if it’s raining, cloudy or uber sunny, UV rays are still there and that’s why you need to wear sunscreen whether you’re going out or staying in!
Trust me, Koreans swear by this…just look at their skin!
Take Care of Those Peepers
If you notice yourself squinting often trying to read something off of your computer monitor or phone, girl, it may be time to have your eyes checked!
Also, make it a habit to wear sunglasses whenever you’re heading out in daylight. Sunglasses can protect your eyes from UV damage as well as minimize squinting which can cause wrinkles such as those frown lines.
Catch Up on Zzzs
Having a good night’s sleep can help your body regenerate and repair itself. So, if you’ve finished university, try to sleep more than those regular 4 hours.
Sleep Flat on Your Back
Sorry side sleepers but sleeping on your sides nor with your face flat on the pillow (I wonder how you guys breathe!) is actually bad for your skin.
Time to strap yourself flat on the bed to keep yourself young (jk)!
Switch to Silk Pillowcases
Sorry cotton and polyester pillowcases, you’re just too abrasive for my skin.
Switching to silk not only feels luxurious but it also minimizes wrinkles by lessening the friction.
Treat Yourself to Some Facial Massage/Exercise
I found countless exercises of what I thought were the best frown lines exercises on the internet. However, one really got me intrigued because it does make sense.
Wrinkles are caused by broken collagen bundles that hold its form, this facial massage exercise helps bring the blood flow back on those problematic areas improving the appearance of those deep lines.
Gosh, wish I started this sooner.
Here are the steps:
- With your clean hands, pinch the head of your brows (where it begins) using your index finger and thumb. Hold for 20 seconds.
- Move on to the arch area and do the same as step 1, holding it down for 20 seconds.
- Move on to the tail part (where it ends) of your brows and do the same as step 1.
- Rest for a minute.
- Beginning from the head of your brows pinch it again but this time subtly pulling it towards the front and slowly apart (like as if you’re stretching it). Hold for 20 seconds.
- Move on to the arch area and do the same as step 4.
- Lastly, do the same for the tail area.
Note: The pinch should not be too strong that it gives you excruciating pain. It should be just the right amount of force that you’d still feel it’s there.
Amp Up The Moisture
Use a moisturizer that has firming properties at least twice a day. Moisture plumps the skin and minimizes the appearance of wrinkles.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating 3-4x a week not only sloughs off dead skin cells but also stimulates blood flow which can increase your skin’s collagen production.
Consider Using a Derma Roller
Dermarollers work by creating micro injuries on the outer layer of the skin to stimulate blood flow and skin repair.
Need more info on dermarollers? Check out my dermaroller review.
Replenish Collagen
You may take collagen supplements and drinks to replace what you lost. While the effect may not be immediate, you’ll surely notice a difference after quite some time.
FAQs
Q: Are Frown Lines Permanent?
A: Yes they are. Once it’s there, you can only lessen its depth by following the tips above.
If money is not a problem, you may choose to consult with the best dermatologist who will be able to recommend cosmetic procedures or Botox to get rid of it or significantly improve its appearance in an instant.
Q: Can Frown Lines Be Removed?
A: Realistically speaking, they cannot be totally removed but they can be improved until it’s less noticeable!
Q: How Do I Stop Frowning In My Sleep?
A: Frowning even during sleep is a result of a negative emotion that may be in your subconscious.
To avoid this, the key is to do proper relaxation techniques before bedtime. You may follow the following tips:
Stow Away Your Gadgets At Least 1-2 Hours Before Bedtime
Stuff that we see online (such as bad news, your ex getting married, etc.) can evoke negative emotions that may be retained in our subconscious, causing us to frown even when we are sleeping.
Set The Mood
Take a nice, warm bath, light some candles, take a minute to slow down and just enjoy these little pleasures.
“Empty Your Mind” – Spongebob
The sea sponge actually made sense when he said this.
Before you sleep, empty your mind of all your worries, fears and whatever is bothering you.
Worrying about it excessively won’t solve it anyway, so just treat yourself to a good night’s sleep and deal with it tomorrow with a clearer mind.
Inhale, Exhale…
The right breathing technique has the power to calm your mind and body.
Take a deep breath and hold it for 3 seconds before slowly breathing out. Imagine all the pain and negativity escaping your body as you breathe out.
Do this until you feel a sense of calm.
Lights Out
Sleeping in the dark lessens the chance of you subconsciously squinting.
Make a Conscious Effort to Stop Frowning During Your Waking Hours
Frowning might be your habit, but just like any habit, it is totally changeable as long as you remain conscious and correct is as soon as you do it.
Stay Happy
Happiness is a mindset. As the saying goes, every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.
Think about three things that made you happy and you should be thankful for today. 😊
Another great product you could buy – Frownies! They’re patches to put on between the brows before you go to sleep. I’ve purchased mine, so a review is coming soon!
Putting It All Together
Prevention is always better than cure, and while we can’t prevent aging we can definitely do certain steps to prevent us from aging quickly.
