What’s the Difference Between Eyebrow Threading and Waxing?
Well, first and foremost the vivid difference between eyebrow threading vs waxing…
In eyebrow threading, a loop thread is used to catch the hair between the thread and then pull it out whereas in waxing a piece of cloth is used to rip off the hairs along with the top layer of the skin (dead skin cells), unless you use hard wax instead of soft wax.
- In waxing, you have to wait for the hair to reach a certain length to actually pull out the hair on the follicle. With threading, you can pull out the hair as soon as it pops out on the top layer of the skin.
- With waxing, you are removing the top layer of the dead skin. In threading, you are doing a mild exfoliation on the surface of the skin.
- In waxing, there is little time taken while in threading more time is taken. This is also an influential factor in waxing vs threading eyebrow pros and cons.
Tips to Consider
Time
Time is a huge factor in the waxing vs threading debate. Both methods have their own time span session. This is because they have different method usage in ensuring perfect eyebrows.
It really depends on the amount of hair that needs to be removed. A good way to figure out how many minutes will be needed is this: imagine how long you would pluck your eyebrows with a tweezer, now divide that by 2.
For me, eyebrows take 5-10 minutes since a whole line of hair is being pulled out rather than a single hair at a time. Waxing may take a bit longer as the wax needs to dry a bit.
Quality Definition
Different methods vary with quality. As mentioned earlier, threading catches the smallest of hairs, so, in my opinion, eyebrow threading defines a better quality if we’re talking about eyebrows, as it really gives a clean look.
Skin Sensitivity
Understand your skin before considering any of these two methods. They both too vary with skin sensitivity users. Threading is usually very good for people with sensitive skin.
Pain
Personally, waxing is less painful for me because it’s one swift movement that pulls a lot of hairs at once. Whereas a thread takes one line at a time and it pulls the hair out a bit slower than wax.
You have to prepare yourself whether you are going for pain or less pain. Eyebrow threading is more painful than waxing.
Some numbing cream or ice cubes on the eyebrows before threading may be used! (Just have the area dry when starting to thread)
Pros and Cons of Eyebrow Threading VS Waxing
As it is known eyebrow waxing vs threading is a debate motion for many eyebrow lovers. There are many factors you should consider before deciding the method you want to stick to or try.
Pros and Cons of Eyebrow Waxing
Pros
- It’s less time consuming than eyebrow threading as a lot of hairs are being pulled out at once.
- Waxing session is less painful.
- When waxing, you are comfortable and do nothing the entire time until you are done. There are no holding eyebrows since it will result in discomfort during the whole session as compared to threading.
Cons
- Waxing involves the removal of the top layer of dead skin which causes rashes and skin discoloration. It is not advisable for people with very sensitive skin.
- If you’re a beginner at hair removal, then there’s a possibility of you burning yourself especially if using an at-home wax kit.
Pros and Cons of Eyebrow Threading
Pros
- Eyebrow threading involves exfoliating hair on the surface of your skin from the follicle. This means it will not have damaged your skin.
- It is suitable for people with skin sensitivity. It doesn’t leave rashes or discoloration.
- Eyebrow threading defines eyebrows much better than other methods. A salon specialist has control over the limit and style you want your hair to get trimmed. It always leaves an extremely clear skin around the eyebrows.
- Suitable for sensitive areas especially on the lower skin of the eyebrows.
- The results stay a longer period before another eyebrow threading session is taken. This is due to the fact the hair is removed from the follicle gland.
- The hair can be removed even when it’s not at such length as you would need it to be for waxing.
- If you learn to do it on your own, a lot of money is saved.
Cons
- Hell yes, it’s painful. You can imagine the pain of rooting an eyebrow from the follicle. Although it’s never that painful like rooting with your fingers, you can now understand the feeling, right?
- It’s not time-friendly. It takes more time than waxing, especially if you want to do it at home on your own.
- If at a salon, you have to take part in the session by holding the skin around your eyebrows of which it might become tiresome for you.
Watch this video where you can learn to do threading at home on your own so you don’t have to plan any more salon appointments and give money to others to touch your face.
What Do I Need to Do Threading at Home?
If you’re feeling inspired by the video above and you want to try out threading at home, you will need the following things before you start:
- A thread
- Small scissors
- Numbing cream or ice cubes (optional)
- Loose powder (to dry the area and let the thread really grab the hairs)
- A soothing lotion, cream after threading (rose water also works well)
Well, there are two options when we’re talking about the thread, really.
You can either use any thread you use to do sowing.
TIP: Use a white colored thread, as this will help to see where the thread is going. I have dark brown eyebrows, so using a black thread doesn’t really work to my advantage of seeing if I’m pulling out the right hairs or just messing up the contour of my eyebrows.
Or you can use a special threading thread like this one:
Vanity Antibacterial Eyebrow Threading Cotton Thread
This will last you for a REALLY long time – I’m talking YEARS!!! It’s a steal, honestly!
Pros
- The box has 10 spoils, each is 300 meters long (about 980 feet)
- Cotton is gentle on sensitive skin.
- It has a micro anti-bacterial treatment over the thread which gives a soft and smooth removal of the hairs
- It removes short hairs where wax doesn’t work (better precision)
Or you can use this if you’re not able to make friends with the coordination or your hands.
WAYCOM Ladies Facial Hair Remover, Electric Threading Device
I’ve never been very artistic, I’m a righty but I think that I have 2 left feet (yes, left feet) when it comes to drawing or any controlled movement of my hands, so this can come in handy if you’re just starting out with threading.
Pros
- Works very well on sensitive skin
- Quick removal of unwanted facial hairs
- Good for beginners
Which is Best – Threading or Waxing Eyebrows?
As we all saw the pros and cons of waxing vs eyebrow threading, eyebrow threading has more advantages than waxing. I take threading as the best option since it just has that truly outstanding and perfect result for my eyebrows.
In my opinion, I prefer eyebrow threading over waxing. Even though it might be a bit more painful but it is worth it. Eyebrow threading is what I would recommend you to try, as you have a better chance to direct how you want your eyebrows shaped and done.
But you have to get the hang of how a thread works, otherwise, you may screw up the shape of your eyebrows, so I recommend practicing on your upper lip or any other bigger space on your face.
Just remember to pull your hair away from your face with an elastic or a headband.
Eyebrow threading is suitable if you are afraid of skin rashes and hate the discoloration of your skin after waxing. Suitable for people with sensitive skin. It can remove the shortest hair on your eyebrow especially on such sensitive areas as under the eyebrows.
With all the explained factors in eyebrow waxing vs threading, I advise you to choose the eyebrow threading technique. You just have to try it out.
I wouldn’t have tried myself because waxing and plucking were my go-to methods, but once you get the hang of threading, it’s really difficult not to fall in love with this hair removal method.
The main reason is, it is natural and makes your eyebrows look much better than waxing.
There are a lot of considerations in identifying the suitable way of taming your eyebrows and for sure each way has its benefits and disadvantages. Most people rely on waxing since it is time friendly while others will consider threading as it makes the eyebrows look more beautiful.
Try out threading at least once and take your eyebrow game to a new level of perfection.
