A lot of us are tired of our daily lather, shave, rinse routine only to get the hair back after a few minutes, hours or days.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be hair free for life? Or maybe for a good amount of time?
I know there’s a more permanent solution to hair removal found in most clinics and salons, one that has literally no downtime, just takes a few minutes, 6-8 sessions and you’re as hair free as a Sphynx cat but… they cost bajillions! Who’s got the money for that?!
Big thanks to companies who chose to innovate and recreate these bulky in-office hair removal machines to something more apt for home use: compact, easy to use, same professional results but definitely does not cost thousands of dollars.
One of the leading innovators in the market is the company called Silk’n who uses HPL technology as opposed to the most common one, IPL.
So, if you’re searching for Silk’n Flash reviews or simply want to know whether HPL is really more efficient than IPL, this product review has got you covered.
Let’s begin!

The Honest Intel on Silk’n Flash and Go
Want to be hair free for a longer period of time? Boom! Here’s the perfect product for you!
But before you go out there and get one (Alert: Another expensive yet quality product), search for Silk’n Flash and Go reviews like this one.
Let me just share with you my two cents worth of what I think about this device. I’ll share my honest opinion based on categories that I normally use when searching for IPL/Laser devices namely:
- Look and Feel
- Safety
- Efficiency
- Number of Flashes
- Ease of use
- Number of Settings Available
Look and Feel
This Silk’n model feels like holding a barcode scanner gun or a blow dryer. I mean it’s not that bad.
I can say it’s still better compared to those laser devices that are connected to a huge base. This one doesn’t have that. Instead, you’re given a power cord that you plug in directly on the gun-like device and on to the power outlet.
The material used for the Silk’n Flash and Go doesn’t feel cheap at all. It looks sturdy and may really serve you well for years.
Will I take this during travels? Hell no. Thanks to its gun-like design, this device takes up space in your bag. The good thing though is that it comes with additional adaptors that you can use when traveling outside the country.
But I still find it bulky for my carry on (won’t take the risk of putting such an expensive item in my checked in luggage!).
If you’re always on the go and would like a compact version of the same product, I suggest getting the Silk’n Flash and Go Express. You’ll get the same HPL technology, but in a more compact size plus it’s packed with more flashes (think 300,000).
For the perfect hair removal device for travel, get the Silk’n Flash&Go Express.

Safety
Should actually be the first on my list but I’m just being honest, how a product look and feel are actually what hooks me into knowing more about it.
I’m glad that this device is FDA cleared (HDA cleared – for all my peeps in Canada).
One thing I noted though in relevance to safety, is the lack of the skin and hair tester. Other products have this small window where you can test the area being treated and it’ll tell you whether or not you’re cleared for treatment.
Silk’n Flash and Go suggests starting with the lowest levels and moving your way up (the settings) as you build tolerance. It says that it’s not recommended for people with deep skin tones, but they didn’t describe how deep is deep?
You get what I’m saying? People don’t need to buy and test it just to find out later on, after a burn or two, that it won’t work on their skin tone.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Efficiency: HPL vs. IPL
HPL or Home Pulsed Light is known to make hair removal quick and painless compared to IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). The difference is in the light energy emitted by these two technologies.
HPL uses extremely short pulses of filtered, high powered energy compared to IPL which uses nanoseconds longer pulses and lower powered energy.
Given that, treatments are shorter. You don’t need an hour to get your whole body done. What you should expect though is that results are accumulative. Don’t expect total hair removal after one treatment.
You’ll notice as you go along that there’s less and less hair growing, and if they do, they grow in patches and much finer than they were before.
Depending on the hair type, some people may be completely hair free after 6 treatments (good for them), while others take a few more treatments (up to 8) to see the amazing results.
Will hair still grow back after this? The hair follicle that got damaged and killed by the laser won’t. But know that you still have dormant hair follicles that when triggered with factors such as hormones, it may turn active and grow.
These are not regrowth, these are new hair growth. That’s why you should keep your device ready for touch-ups.
Number of Flashes
I’m quite dismayed with the number of flashes packed in this one. Like c’mon 5,000? That’s all you got?
Good thing they have replacement cartridges available. But then again, you’re paying for another set of 5,000 flashes.
This brings me to a conclusion that if the number of flashes is all you’re after (especially if you’re sharing the device with your husband or daughter, or someone else), I suggest that you get the Silk’n Flash and Go Express (built with 300,000).
Or better yet get a lifetime worth of flashes with Silk’n Flash and Go Infinity Hair Removal Device (you might need to include this one in your will!).
The other two are packed with tons of flashes and will save you hundreds of dollars in the long run.

Ease of Use
Using the Silk’n Flash and Go is really easy. First things first, ensure that you have shaved the treatment area. Doing so allows the laser light to easily travel down the hair follicles as opposed to unshaven hair.
Next, you’re ready to use the machine using the following simple steps.
- Plug the device on to a power source.
- Turn it on by pressing the power button (you’ll hear than fan whirling, the lights will blink to tell you that it’s now ready for action).
- Hold the device against your skin and wait for the lights to flash once again (this way you’ll know that the device has located the area to be treated).
- Once it does, click to flash away. Easy peasy!
Number of Settings Available
This model of Silk’n Flash and Go has 3 settings which I think is perfect for beginners. As a rule of thumb, you should always begin with the lowest setting and work your way up.
HPLs and IPLs are not really painful (unless you have tattoos or super deep skin, then it might cause serious burns), you just get that quick warm sensation that feels like a sudden, light snap on your skin.
Over time, you’d get used to it. It feels so much better compared to waxing and plucking!
Level three not cutting it for you? Need something stronger? Try the other variants such as the Silk’n Flash and Go Express or Infinity both have power levels up to level 5.
Putting It All Together
Overall, I’d recommend Silk’n Flash and Go for beginners. For those with medium to dark unwanted hair and light to medium skin who’d want to be hair free for a longer period of time.
It’s a good product after all, however, I find more value in getting either the Express or Infinity model as they are packed with tons of flashes compared to this version and comes with a more travel-friendly design.
