For some time now these two weird words are showing up more frequently – Yoni Egg a.k.a. Jada Egg.
But what are yoni eggs? Is it something out of Game of Thrones? Are they eggs from an unheard bird species? Or is it a special way how Gordon Ramsey cooks eggs for breakfast?

What Is a Yoni Egg?
Yoni is the Sanskrit word (“abode,” “source,” “womb,” or “vagina”) for a woman’s genitalia. (https://www.britannica.com/topic/yoni)
Now you know what a Yoni egg is – a vaginal egg.
If a question like – But what are vaginal jade eggs? – lurking around in your brain, then know that it is the same thing as a Yoni egg.
Types of Yoni Eggs
Well, when talking about the types of yoni eggs, there are 2 criteria that we can divide them into:
- Material
- Size (more on that later)
Material
First up, the material.
The best Yoni eggs are made of a semi-precious stone.
It is carefully carved, smoothened and polished into an egg shape so that you can wear it comfortably in your vagina or your Yoni.
If you’re wondering what are semi-precious stones, here’s a few most common examples:
- Amethyst
- Black Obsidian (for releasing trauma and emotions in the body)
- Rose Quartz (also known as the Love Stone, for the heart chakra)
- White Jade
- Nephrite Jade (most popular/best Yoni egg for beginners)
- Agate
A bigger list of semi-precious stones that are good for a Yoni egg, here.
You should never buy a Yoni egg from a gemstone store that is not specifically intended as a Yoni egg, as there may be added harsh chemicals and/or dyes while manufacturing it.
Yoni Egg Sizes
Usually, a complete Yoni egg kit will come with 3 eggs, each in a different size – large, medium, small.
Why so? Because if you’re a beginner you need a bigger size, working your way up to the pro level where you will need the smallest size.
Seems weird to work downwards the egg size chart if you’re a beginner. It would seem more logical to work your way up, but no!
If you’re looking for Yoni eggs in the first place, that means you are interested in strengthening your pelvic muscles.
So, if you’re a beginner, your muscles aren’t that tight, which means that they won’t be able to hold a small egg. It will fall out.
As for the sizes in numbers…
According to YoniEgg.com, typically they are:
- Large 35×50 mm
- Medium 30x43mm
- Small 25x35mm
However, a slight difference may vary from one Yoni egg manufacturer to another.
The best Yoni for beginners will either be the large or medium Yoni egg. If you are not active and have a sitting job then you’re probably going to want to start with a large size.
If you’ve given vaginal birth to more than 1 child, then you will want to start out with the large size or even extra-large (some manufacturers provide this opportunity).
If you’re somewhat active, then medium should be OK for you.
A small one – well, you have to work your way down to that.
Girl, your pelvic muscles are TIGHT if you can hold in the smallest Yoni egg.
What Are Yoni Eggs Used For?
Ok, we now know that Yoni eggs are not an edible arrangement, so what do Yoni eggs do?
Well, the Yoni or Jade egg history says that centuries ago only China’s concubines and queens in Ancient China used these Yoni eggs as a way to strengthen their health, beauty and their overall life.
It was also believed that a Yoni egg elevates a woman’s chi energy, which in turn gives higher spiritual energy.
Without beating too much around the bush…
The Yoni eggs are primarily used to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles.
Now, that you know what is a yoni egg used for, how about how to use Yoni eggs?
How to Use Yoni Eggs
Well, first things first – clean the Yoni egg once you receive it.
You can either clean it with lighting a sage stick or with organic, anti-bacterial, unscented soap and water.
Once that’s out of the way, you’re probably wondering how to insert a Yoni egg.
How to Insert a Yoni Egg
Well, as any egg, one part of the egg will be bigger while the other will be smaller and pointier.
You will need to insert the Yoni egg with the wider/bigger part of the egg first, so the smaller part of the egg will be facing downwards.
There are two best ways to insert the egg, in my opinion:
Laying on your back on your bed (with some essential oils or sage making the room feel more relaxing)
Or
In the shower, as the added water will probably make it a bit easier to slide in.
Yoni Egg Exercises
Yoni + Kegel exercises = match made in heaven.
Some exercises or as others call them egg-sercises, while having a Yoni egg inside, include the following:
- Kegel exercises
- Squats
- Leg raises (lie on your back and raise your legs to a 90-degree angle)
- Planking
Or, if you want the added benefit of a yoga/meditation while having a Yoni egg inside, then see the below Yoni Yoga Practice video, very relaxing with a beautiful voice guiding you what to do.
Pros and Cons of a Yoni Egg
So, let’s find out the other Jade/Yoni egg benefits (in addition to pelvic muscle strengthening), as well as the dangers of Yoni eggs.
Pros
- Pelvic floor muscle strengthening.
- You become more aware of your vaginal area, more comfortable with it (may help with using menstrual cups)
- Be more in-tune with your femininity.
- With meditation, you can focus on the Yoni and heal past traumas associated with this part of the body.
- Explore your sexuality and responsiveness.
- Balancing the hormones.
- Preventing a decline of nerves, the bladder, and uterus.
- Increased orgasms (both in sensation and the number).
Cons
- Leaving the Yoni egg for too long can cause unnecessary stress to the pelvic floor muscles, says a doula.
- No scientific research to back up the pros.
Overall, in my personal opinion, even if there’s no scientific proof for the pros of a Yoni egg, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t actual benefits to a woman’s body.
There are medical miracles, which doctors can’t explain. So, I think, just because it hasn’t been researched that deeply yet, it doesn’t make the very real and positive feedback from hundreds of women, not true. It has been and is true and real for them.
I believe that you should buy a Yoni egg not only for the pelvic muscle exercises but for a bit of inner research. Putting a Yoni egg is not the same thing as putting in a menstrual cup, it is more sensual and intimate.
A little meditating and self-exploration never hurt anyone.
See below Candace’s and Michelle’s experience:
How to Choose a Yoni Egg?
Well, that depends. Which category is most important to you?
1) The crystal’s meaning / meditation / self-exploration
2) Get those pelvic muscles to break a sweat, girl!
You see, you may fall in both categories, but some of you may just want the physical benefit of a Yoni egg.
If you fall in the first category or both, then I’d advise to really check out the meaning and energy behind each Yoni egg’s stone.
If you want to exercise the pelvic muscles, look for a 3 Yoni eggs kit, so you can work from levels beginner to pro.
OR see my article on the best kegel exercise devices, where I talk all about how to use these electric kegel exercisers and why they just may be the best companion for a 21st-century woman looking to strengthen her vaginal walls!
Now that all of that is out of the way, without further ado, let’s take a look at a few Yoni egg reviews.
Top 5 Best Yoni Egg Reviews (2023)
Yoni Eggs 3-pcs Set of 3 Gemstones
I think this is ultimately the best Yoni egg kit, as it not only has all 3 sizes but they also are a different stone each – nephrite jade (small size), rose quartz (medium size), and obsidian (large size).
The only thing that may differ as either a pro or con for each woman – whether they are drilled Yoni eggs.
These are not only the best Yoni eggs for beginners but as well for more experienced Yoni egg users.
Pros
- Has all three sizes.
- Each egg is a different gemstone.
- Comes with an un-waxed, unflavored dental floss.

FAQ
What’s the Difference between Drilled vs Undrilled Yoni egg?
There’s really no difference in the use.
An undrilled Yoni egg doesn’t have a little hole at the smaller side of the Yoni egg. A drilled Yoni egg has a small drilled hole, so you can tie a string.
Basically, the drilled Yoni egg is perfect for beginners that are worried they won’t be able to get the egg out.
The drilled version with a string tied to it works like a tampon. When you want to take the egg out, you can push the egg as far as you can and then pull it out by the string.
The string can be an un-waxed dental floss. Just remember to replace the thread/string after each use to avoid unnecessary bacteria.
How do you clean a Yoni egg?
Super easy – with warm water. Some manufacturers for specific stones advice not to boil the egg, as it can cause cracks, which will definitely not be good for the egg or you.
Intimate hygiene soap can also be used along with plain old water.
There are also special soaps for cleaning a Yoni egg, like this
Also, if you have a drilled Yoni egg, perhaps purchasing a cleaning brush won’t be a bad idea as well, if the brush doesn’t come along with your Yoni egg kit.
Energetically speaking, burning a sage can also clean it.
Can you use a Yoni egg while pregnant?
No. As you are contracting the muscles down there, those are completely unnecessary contractions while being pregnant.
After pregnancy – sure.
While pregnant? NO!
What is The Best Stone for Yoni Egg?
See the section above: Types of Yoni Eggs
It really depends on your preference. There’s a list of the most popular stones for a Yoni egg, you have to choose one stone that resonates with you the most.
Just make sure that your Yoni egg is made of approved gemstones that can be inserted in the vagina, in the section above there’s also a link to a list of stones that a Yoni egg shouldn’t be made of.
How Long Can I Keep My Yoni Egg In?
There are some who swear that you should keep the Yoni egg in for 3 days to truly receive the stone’s benefits. I think – don’t do it!
That’s waaay too much contracting for your muscles, especially at night while your body should be resting.
Too much of a good is bad! You can drink carrot juice, which will give you a good dose of vitamin D, but too much of carrot juice will make your skin orange. Don’t be an orange!
Too much tightening is bad.
Put the Yoni egg during daylight hours, don’t sleep in it. I’d say a good rule of thumb for beginners would be no more than 1 hour.
How Often Should You Use Yoni Egg?
As for the number of times you should put the Yoni egg…
Once again, for beginners, no more than 2 times per week will be a good start.
Is it Normal that I Can’t Feel My Yoni Egg?
In the beginning, yes, it is normal. In today’s society, that part of the woman’s body isn’t really talked about as a sacred or intimate part.
In some cultures or families it’s a shameful topic, therefore, girls and women haven’t really explored that part on their own, so there’s no emotion there as well.
As you will train your muscles more, you will start to feel the egg more, even where it is located.
Can I Sleep With My Yoni Egg?
No, I wouldn’t advise sleeping with a Yoni egg.
Firstly, you’re asleep, you’re not in the moment, not being mindful of the Yoni egg inside, and so what’s the benefit of sleeping with a Yoni egg?
Secondly, you’re also not working your muscles by contracting and releasing, so there’s no physical benefit as well.
Do you sleep with some dumbbells in your hand so your arm muscles get stronger? No. I rest my case.
Do Jade Eggs Really Work?
Well, that’s for you to decide. While not trying it out, we can never really know what works for us. Some more spiritual people will say that it was a game changer for them, while some who need a scientific back-up, will completely despise the egg.
If you feel that the Yoni egg could help you emotionally, spiritually or just become more aware of your body, especially your reproductive system, then there’s only one thing left to do – buy one of the best Yoni eggs and try it out!
